Pio Pio restaurant by Sebastian Mariscal (New York)
Frank in NYC...
Located in the Hell's Kitchen district of Manhattan (between 34th and 57th Streets), this gritty neighborhood is historically famous for its rough look, busy underworld and ethnic conflicts that inspired the West Side Story. Far from its once notorious culture, this neighborhood is now home to diverse gastronomic experiences, aspiring actors and a fast changing social fabric.
Although Peruvian in its gastronomic experience, Sebastian Mariscal wanted to utilize materials that resonate to the Latin American culture and way of life. The simplicity and humble selection of materials narrates the vernacular architecture in Latin America; concrete, wood and stone. The mixture of contrasting materials sets the tone to a pleasant experience as it amalgamates with the food.

Scala Vinoteca is a real metropolitan diamond and the newest entry into mature wining and dining. Yet not in Milan or New York, but in Athens.
When it comes to enjoying a fine plate of octopus carpaccio, tiradito shrimps, or asparagus a la plancha with a fairy flair of Chios mastic, over more than one hundred different wine etiquettes to choose from, then the place to be is definitely Scala Vinoteca. A wine bar that opened about three months ago right in the very fashionable and fabulous heart of Athens, in Kolonaki.
With a strong resemblance to Spanish vinerias, it was two great architects, Andreas Kurkulas and Maria Kokkinou (well known for their previous work on the Benaki Museum) that gave the place –miles of miles away from maximalism- its simple character and strong attitude through the use of simple materials such as wood and aluminium.
But unarguably, it is not the Fiberglass Shell chairs by C&R Eames for Modernica that have the leading role here, although they might at first try to steal it! That belongs alone to the menu itself (very Mediterranean compiled together by Christoforos Peskias and his student, Thodoros Kyprianides) as well as to the rich wine card.

The Laundromat Cafe (Copenaghen)
Hallo Frank...
The Laundromat Cafe opened it's doors in august 2004.
The idea was to open a place where doing your laundry and hanging out at a cafe could be combined.
The goal is to create a cool cosy cafe, with a pratical touch. Wireless internet access, chess, yatzi, backgammon, over 4000 books and a wide selection of magazines.
They serve delicious, homemade food, coffee, drinks and the best hamburger in the world!
Young designers have the possibility of exhibiting their creations in showcases placed on their walls.
Enjoy it!
